Steve Clegg’s men scored twice in the dying minutes to claim a 5-3 victory after the hosts had fought back from 3-0 down, moving into second place in the league standings and leapfrogging Park in the process.

Danny Collins fired the visitors ahead inside the opening quarter of an hour and doubled his side’s advantage just five minutes later.

It was 3-0 when Mike Barker struck on the half-hour mark, and Edgehill had chances to further extend their lead before the interval.

Newlands began the second half on the front foot and two goals in as many minutes from Jack Hakings and Kile Fields brought them to within touching distance. Clegg’s troops held out until the 85th minute when Ben Luntley struck to tie the scores at 3-3, but parity did not last long.

Edgehill went straight back down the other end and re-took the lead through substitute Danny Glendinning before Dave Bell smashed number five home from the edge of the box to make sure of the points.

Kieran Link and skipper Lloyd Henderson were the star performers for the victors.

West Pier, who remain top of the table on goal difference from Edgehill, scored seven times in the second half to claim an 8-1 success at Whitby Fishermen’s Society.

Tom Barker moved Andy Spivey’s side in front, but the Fishermen levelled the scores before half-time from the penalty spot.

The second period belonged to Pier however, Barker adding a second and Will Jenkinson and Billy Logan hitting braces, while Sam Garnett and Neil Thomas also netted.

Hunmanby United remain in third place after chalking up their sixth victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph at Sleights.

James Fawcett gave the Whitby side an early lead with a spot-kick, but three goals in the closing stages of the first period saw the away team take a 3-1 advantage into the break.

Three more strikes after the interval rounded things off for Hunmanby, James Pinder (2), Cameron Dobson, Ryan Baldry, Kurt Williamson and Lee Johnson the goalscorers.

Luke Delve helped himself to a hat-trick as Seamer won 9-0 on the road at Cayton Corinthians.

Delve was joined on the scoresheet by Ali Caw, who notched a double, Joe Tiffany, Ben Mason, Joe Gallagher and Dan Bradbury.

Westover Wasps versus Whitby RUFC was postponed as the away side could not raise a team.

Filey Town exited the Scarborough and District FA Harbour Cup after a 5-2 defeat at Kirkbymoorside.

Town had the better of the early chances but the Moorsiders took the lead in controversial circumstances through a strike that the visitors felt had not fully crossed the goalline.

The hosts notched twice more before the break and Filey then had a strong claim for a penalty turned down as half-time approached.

Tommy Wilson struck early in the second half to give Dave Brannan’s young side a glimmer of hope and they were right back in it when Ben Briggs made it 3-2 after 70 minutes.

Brannan threw numbers forward in a bid to grab an equaliser, but to no avail, and the home side added two more on the counter-attack in the closing stages.

A furious Brannan said: “Kirkbymoorside maybe just about deserved to win the game because they battled that little bit harder and our young lads were a bit naive at times, but the referee’s performance has left me really angry.

“He awarded their first goal, which we don’t think crossed the line, despite being nearly 30 yards away from it, and then he’s said no to a blatant penalty that everybody there, including the opposition players and manager, could see was a foul.”
