SATURDAY LEAGUE: Logan and Thomas smash in four apiece as Pier march on

West Pier smashed 12 past a depleted Sleights side to ram home their title aspirations and maintain their 100% league record to date.

Billy Logan and Neil Thomas showed no mercy to their hosts as they fired in four goals apice as West Pier dominated from start to finish in their Division One encounter.

Sleights were behind after just one minute as Neil Thomas was brought down in the box and Martin Cooper slammed home from the spot.

Shaun Dodson was forced off a minute later after suffering a hamstring injury, but that didn’t stop Pier’s dominance as they made it 2-0 after five minutes and were five goals to the good at the break.

In addition to Thomas and Logan hammering in four each, Cooper ht home a second penalty and added a third to complete his hat-trick, and Sam Garnett rounded off the scoring with his side’s 12th.

Boss Andy Spivey said: “The goalscorers had a bit of a field day, but Kris Tate did well in midfield and Mikey Pickering replaced Shaun Dodson early on and did a good job.

“We moved the ball quite well but they were quite depleted.”

Cayton Corinthians picked up a much-needed win as they hammered Whitby Fishermen’s Society 8-1 away from home.

John Read headed Shaun Rennison’s men in front before goals from Luke Newbould, a Jake Sands penalty and a Jake McAleese strike put them 4-0 up and in full control at the break.

Their dominance continue after the interval as Jack Pinder and Luke Foster both fired in braces to make it 8-0 before Mark Swales’ penalty brought a late consolation for Mark Storr’s men.

Rennison singled out Foster as his side’s man of the match. “That was one of the best Cayton performances I have seen for a long time. Every time we went forward we looked dangerous.”

Hunmanby United’s solid start to the season continued as they edged to a 5-3 win on the road at Westover Wasps.

Scores were level at the break at 1-1, but United managed to edge to the three points despite a below-par team performance.

Cameron Dobson grabbed two of United’s goals, while Ollie Milner, James Pinder and Kurt Williamson also got on the scoresheet.

Whitby RUFC failed to raise a side for their home clash against champions Newlands.

Filey Town Reserves cruised to a 7-1 win against rock-bottom Ayton, but player-boss Lee Cappleman believed his side should’ve won by a more handsome margin in Division Two.

Scott Sheldon and Max Gage netted in the first half to help their side to a 2-0 lead at the break.

Sheldon added a second after the break and two from Cappleman plus goals from Joe Gage and Lalan Flynn wrapped up an easy day’s work for Town.

But boss Cappleman wanted more. He said: “Their keeper did well, but we missed so many chances.

“We should have scored 10, maybe even 15.”

Cappleman singled out Sheldon and Tom Haxby as his side’s stand out performers.

Seamer Reserves moved level on points with league leaders Scalby after beating Snainton 6-3.

Snainton remain in the bottom two and without a point.

In the battle of two promotion hopefuls in Division Three, the spoils were shared as Rosette and Eastway drew 3-3.

Eastway quickly racked up a 2-0 lead before Al Wray’s free-kick found the top corner just before half-time made it 2-1.

Simon McDonald levelled things up after the break, but a defensive lapse allowed Eastway to take the lead again.

With just seven minutes left on the clock, Wayne Shaw latched onto a through-ball and slid in to end things at 3-3.

Rosette joint-boss Billy Cammish singled out the performance of McDonald.

Hunmanby United Reserves finally grabbed their first win at the eighth attempt after beating Sleights Reserves 6-2.

Louis Warley and Max Wood both fired in two apiece for Dave Wedge’s side, while Dean Coates and Reggie Smith both got their names on the scoresheet.

Delighted boss Wedge singled out Coates as their man of the match.

Filey Town 3rds almost paid the price for missed chances as they scraped to a 2-1 win against Commercial.

Commercial led in the first minute and it took Brandon Milner’s side until the 65th minute to level up, Lee Lambert heading in after Lee Plant nodded a free-kick back across the box.

It looked like missed chances from the hosts would cost them, but Aaron Howard wrapped up the points after 80 minutes when he latched onto Milner’s through-ball and fired in.

Milner said: “They didn’t look like scoring after the made it 1-0. We deserved the win, we just missed a lot of chances.”

Itis Itis Rovers’ home clash against Fishburn Park Reserves was postponed.
