SATURDAY LEAGUE: Pier edge out Newlands after extra-time in League Cup semi

West Pier beat Newlands 3-1 after extra-time at Pickering Town tonight in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Neil Thomas edged Pier ahead early on but Matthew Griffiths' header levelled the game up and ensured extra-time was needed at Mill Lane.

Newlands were reduced to 10 men after Drew McCoubrey was sent off after two yellow cards, and Pier made their numerical advantage pay with goals from Will Jenkinson and Sam Garnett in extra-time sealing their win and place in the final against Edgehill or Rosette.

In Division Two, Sherburn earned a 4-3 home win against a determined Old Vic.

Teenager Harry Ward scored his first senior hat-trick, while Matty Whitehall, on his 30th birthday, also netted.

Whitehall and Mikey Dennis were the Sherburn men of the match, while the whole Old Vic team shared their man of the match award.

Ayton earned a 1-0 win at Snainton, Tommy Day scoring the winner after fine work from Ian Laing.

Dan Tomlinson, Harrison Beck, Nick Perry and Joe Bradshaw shone in defence for the visitors.

Andy Worgan was man of the match for Snainton.

The game between FC Rosette and Cayton was abandoned after 65 minutes due to a serious leg injury sustained by Rosette's Jamie Wray.

Rosette were leading 4-2 when play was halted.

Edgehill 3rds won 5-2 at Scalby Reserves in the Reserve League thanks to goals from Martin Jenkinson (2), Lee Cappleman, Tom Scales and Jamie Gallagher.

Taylor Jordan bagged a brace for Scalby, with Dave Oxley and Luke Beaver their star men.

Filey Town Reserves were 6-2 winners at Ayton Reserves.

Man of the match Joe Gage hit two for the victors with their other goals coming from Josh Westmoreland, Lewis Adams and Tom Orange, while Dan Bywater and Chris Milburn scored for Ayton.

Ayton's star men were Richard Howes and Nicko Dunn.
