Scales weighs in with double as Filey Reserves sink rivals Scalby

Tom Scales fired in a double as second division title-chasers Filey Reserves maintained their 100 per cent record with a 4-1 home win against rivals Scalby, while division three leaders Seamer Reserves surged to a 14-0 win at 10-man Commercial and top-flight pacesetters West Pier beating seven-man Ayton 11-0.

Scales opened the scoring for Town with a strike into the top corner, Dave Wedge headed in a second for the hosts and a free-kick from player-boss Lee Cappleman effectively sealed the win by half-time.

A fourth from Scales added to Scalby’s woes, with only a bizarre own goal from Scott Sheldon, when he fired a shot past his own keeper, giving the visitors any hope of a comeback.

Scales and Joe Eblet shone for the hosts, while subs Carl Marton and Tom Walker impressed for Dan Gregory’s side.

Edgehill Reserves’ chances of defending their title receded with a 4-0 defeat at Newlands Park Reserves.

The hosts dominated the game and took the lead in the 10th minute with a shot from the edge of the box from Matty Griffiths.
