Scarborough Athletic boss Darren Kelly left frustrated by Luke Porritt setback

Boss Darren Kelly has been left frustrated by a knock to Luke Porritt - who was forced off in the dying stages of Scarborough Athletic’s 1-0 win over Eccleshill United on Saturday.

Porritt, who joined Boro towards the end of last season, was impressing Kelly until he suffered a nasty blow to his shin following a robust challenge from an Eccleshill opponent.

“It’s incredibly frustrating,” said Kelly.

“He will have to wait for seven days for the swelling to go down before he can have an X-Ray on it, but I didn’t realise until watching it back what a bad challenge it was on him to be honest.”

“Poz was impressing on Saturday too, he had great energy up and down the left side from the wing-back role and played well, so to lose him so late in the game was a bitter pill to swallow.

“Obviously injuries are part and parcel of pre-season and football in general, but we have been unfortunate with the players we have lost so far, including Kieran Weledji, Poz and also we’re still missing Isaac Assenso too.”

Athletic boss Kelly also confirmed new signing Weledji is unlikely to return to action until 2021 in what is a huge blow to his plans.

“It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Weledji back to fitness until after Christmas, probably more likely in February or March, which really is a blow to us,” added a frustrated Boro boss Kelly.

“I’m not sure when Isaac Assenso could be back, but I am sure it won’t be for a while yet.”
