Scarborough Athletic boss Kelly keen to seal Senior Cup success at Marske while Brown lauds Barrett return boost

Defender Josh Barrett returns after missing Saturday's friendly at Yorkshire Amateur

Kelly said: "It's a big game, the message is clear that we will not treat this like a pre-season friendly and the attitude, spirit and application has to be spot on.

"I've been in constant dialogue with Brownie and the coaches while I was away, and I've heard good reports back from friendlies and training, but it will be good to see things first hand now that I'm back.

"We go to Marske wanting to win the game. It is a semi-final and a chance to get through to try and win some silverware for the club."

Boro will have Josh Barrett back in their squad for tonight's clash after he was missing for Saturday’s friendly clash at Yorkshire Amateur.

Player-coach David Brown is delighted that Barrett is back in the ranks.

“I think Josh was one of the club’s best players in the second half of last season, so to have him back available for Thursday’s semi-final is a big boost,” said Brown.

“Josh is so versatile as well and can operate at wing-back or centre-back, which helps massively.

“I do think he suits that wing-back role perfectly though as he has a great engine and can effect the game in both boxes.”

Athletic have also signed on goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson and defender Tom Devitt and they go into the squad for the cup clash.

Boro will be without Flynn McNaughton, who is cup tied due to his involvement with Pickering Town earlier in the competition, while Kieran Weledji would’ve also been cup tied for the clash, but is injured anyway.

Brandon Smalley is also unavailable for competitive action as the club await international clearance for the midfielder, who has impressed the coaching staff in pre-season.

Boro suffered no further injury worries after Saturday’s friendly clash, while Kian Spence was taken off with five minutes left as a precautionary measure.

“Kian got a bit of a whack with about five minutes left so we brought him off just to be safe, but we think he’s come up ok so we should be near enough at full strength for the Markse match,” added Brown.
