Scarborough Athletic crash out of Integro League Cup after 5-1 hammering at home to Dunston

It was the hosts who started the brighter and with the first real chance of the game James Walshaw carved our half a chance which was saved well by Karl Dryden in the Dunston goal.

Walshaw then had the ball in the back of the net, a long range drive from Kian Spence was parried by the goalkeeper and Walshaw tapped home.

Only to see the linesman’s flag raised on the far side. Shortly after Pete Davidson drove a shot just wide.

With 22 minutes on the clock it was the hosts who took the lead. Some lightning fast feet from Spence in the midfield released Paul Walker who swung an inch perfect cross onto the forehead of Walshaw who fired home a bullet header from eight yards.

But that was as good as it got for the hosts as the visitors levelled shortly after.

Mark Fitzpatrick with a simple finish after Davidson was guilty of overplaying. In winning the ball back Dunston seemed to have fouled Davidson but the referee gave nothing and the goal stood.

It was soon 2-1, eight minutes before half-time Josh Barrett was judged to have fouled his man inside the box by referee Sam Packer, who gave a penalty, which was calmly slotted down the middle by Fitzpatrick.

Into the second half and again Boro struggled to assert the dominance they held at the start of the game, struggling to hold the ball and create any clear cut chances.

And they were soon made to pay, Dan Capewell prodding home from close range after a bit of a melee in the box, after Taylor had missed his punch.

Things then went from bad to worse as Dunston sealed the win, Taylor misjudging what appeared to be a straightforward catch allowing Fitzpatrick to roll into a vacant net to complete one of the simplest hat-tricks he will ever score.

A miserable night was then compounded as Josh Barrett put through his own net.

Second half sub Michael Coulson dragged a shot wide in a last ditch attempt to save some face, but the majority of the 354 crowd left embarrassed as Scarborough suffered another heavy defeat, a second 5-1 loss of the season.
