Ryan Whitley and Kian Spence have returned to parent clubs York City and FC Halifax Town respectively after their loan deals expired.

Boro were keen to keep the pair, but given the lack of any signs of a return to action in the Northern Premier League, it was decided by both parties not to extend their deals after they expired on January 1.

"It would have been insane for us to look to keep Ryan and Kian with the club, given the fact that we more than likely won't even return to training until March realistically," said Boro manager Darren Kelly.

"Ryan has been superb for us and 100% I would be very interested in trying to get him back in if and when we return to action in the near future.

"I was so impressed with him, on and off the field, in his brief time with us and I wish him all the best back at York City, who have been brilliant with everything regarding the deal.

"Kian will be recovering from his injury anyway and I wish him all the best with that going forward, and again he's a player that I admire and would very much be open to him coming back in to the club at some point in the future.

"He's flexible in terms of where he can play and always gives 100% to the cause, which is why the fans took to him so well.

"I'd like to thank Halifax and York for being so great with us regarding both players and hopefully once we get back up and running, we can look to get them back in with us."
