Boro skipper shakes off injury scare

Hackworth was one of three players to limp off on Saturday, alongside Dave Kemp (hamstring) and Matty Plummer (thigh).

The attacker originally thought his foot might be broken, but after a few days of rest it just seems to be badly bruised.

Hackworth said: “I did it in the first half of Saturday’s game. At half-time I took my boot off and it started to swell, so I just put my boot back on and carried on playing.

“Our physio Karen told me to keep an eye on it after the game, but I took a few anti-inflamatories and it seems to have calmed down, so I’ll be okay for Armthorpe.”

Hackworth added: “We are doing alright at the moment, but we are not getting ahead of ourselves.

“We had a good week last week with Brid dropping points, but we have to keep our focus and keep winning our games.

“In the past we have tended to struggle against the lower teams, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time because we are going into every game with the same mentality.

“The dressing room has been quality all season, but the gaffer (Rudy Funk) is still looking to bring other lads in, just to keep us on our toes.

“I personally wasn’t sure where i would be playing in pre-season, especially when we started strengthening all across the pitch, but I have settled in up top now and I’m enjoying it.

“We now just need to keep the run going and see where it takes us.”

Funk has plans of bringing a couple of new faces in ahead of Saturday’s outing.

He said: “The fact that Tuesday night’s North Riding FA Senior Cup game against Redcar was off actually did us a favour because we had a few lads that were suffering from knocks.

“At the same time I was looking forward to seeing a few of the fringe lads playing, but we’ll be able to take a look when the game is finally played next Tuesday.

“We’ll have to wait and see how the likes of Tony, Dave and Matty are for Saturday, though if Lady Luck is on our side we could have two new strikers in our squad on Saturday.

“We have put two approaches in, now we have to wait for everythng to progress and we’ll see what happens.”
