Scarborough scholars take on the Red Devils

The University of Hull Scarborough Campus-based scholarship, run by former Scarborough Athletic Reserves boss Steve Brennan and Hull City Academy coach Matt Colven, recently took the trip to tackle the Manchester United Foundation.

They may have lost the game by a 4-1 scoreline with Jordan Todd smashing home their goal, but they had a day to remember.

Brennan said: "It took six months to get the game against Manchester United, but it wasn't just about that. It was also about creating a link between our set-up and theirs.

"They put in a lot of effort for us as well, giving us a free tour of Old Trafford, which was a great experience for our lads.

"We are hoping to link up with United every year now because it is massive for lads from Scarborough to go over and play a Premier League side's scholarship.

The Scarborough youngsters will now be heading to Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium to tackle their scholarship side on May 16.

Brennan is also on the look-out for a new coach to boost their swiftly-filling level three BTEC Sport course for next September, which also offers 10 hours a week of football coaching.

He added: "We are hoping to recruit 34 to 36 students, which means that we'll need some extra help on the football field.

"We're looking for a UEFA B qualified coach, or somebody of level two working towards level three, who can come in a gain a bit of experience.

"Somebody from the local area would be perfect, with a good amount of contacts, who could help feed through promising players from Scarborough."
