Scarborough Sunday League: Newlands march past Catterick in North Riding Sunday Challenge Cup semi-final

Dan Sheader’s side led 1-0 at the half-time interval, the only goal of the first half coming from prolific striker Zac Hansen after five minutes, who was played in one-on-one with the Catterick keeper and made no mistake in firing in.

Newlands were soon 2-0 up, Hansen again the man firing into the back of the net to double the home side’s advantage after breaking through the Catterick defence again.

Hansen soon wrapped up his hat-trick to put the game to bed and make it 3-0, the Newlands top-scorer again showing great composure in the final third to fire in.

The home side were soon 4-0 up and coasting into the final, Ryan Link smashing in a superb strike from the just outside the box to wrap up the scoring for Sheader’s Newlands side.

Visitors Catterick hit back late on with a goal of their own, but that proved a mere consolation as Newlands stormed into the final of the competition.

Delighted boss Sheader was quick to sing the praises of his side afterwards.

He said: “It was another great team performance from the lads.

“Ryan Link and Ben Luntley were outstanding and shared the man of the match, but the whole side were fantastic once again and it was a pretty comfortable win in the end.”

Newlands will take on the winners of the other semi-final between Yarm Albion and Village Park Rangers on Thursday March 26, 7.30pm kick-off.

The venue of the final is yet to be confirmed.

In Division One, Cayton Corinthians’ home game against Angel Athletic and Valley versus Trafalgar were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Saints beat Fylingdales 4-2 in their Division Two clash.

Paul Nuttal hit two for the victors, whose other goals came from Matty Stanley and George Hirst.

Stanley was Saints’ man of the match.

Eastfield Athletic and Roscoes Bar shared the spoils after a 3-3 draw.

Roscoes led 2-0 at the break, Gary Hepples and Sam Collin with the goals.

Eastfield battled back after the break to make it 2-2 as Adam Martin smashed in from 25 yards and Tom Hickin also scored.

A Lee Sutton penalty put Roscoes back in front, but Jonny Whitworth scored to seal a draw for Eastfield.

Tom Swayne was Eastfield’s star man, while right-back Harry Harman shone for Roscoes.

Angel Athletic Reserves’ game against Castle Tavern was postponed.
