A Scarborough veterans football team will be embarking on their debut North Riding Cup adventure on Saturday afternoon at Graham School.
A host of current and former players from the area will do battle with Dormans Athletic in the semi-finals of the North Riding FA Veterans Cup, 3pm.
Among them will be organisers Mitch Cook and Joe Hakings, as well as Scarborough Athletic assistant-manager Denny Ingram.
Other former Scarborough FC players Dave Bowman and Steve French will also be aiming to roll back the years and book a place in the final of the competition against either Cleveland Cable Company or Grangetown.
Cook said: “For the past few years several of us have been playing for a team organised by Kenny Ferrie in a game against a touring Scottish side.
“The North Riding FA got in touch with us and asked if we fancied entering this competition because this is the first time they have done it.
“It will be tough because Dormans play in a veterans league in Middlesbrough.
“We want to go out and enjoy it, but at the same time be competitive. All of our players have been successful at their level of football, but you have to see how these things go.
“A lot of old football players stand at the bar and talk about what they did. We can prove we can still do it on Saturday.”
Cook added: “I’d like to thank Kenny Ferrie for his help with the game, Graham School for the use of their facilities and Joe Hakings for putting on food at the Newlands afterwards.”
