Seamer Reserves net shock shoot-out win at Edgehill

Martyn Ferrey hit the opening spot-kick of the game onto the bar as Edgehill spurned an early chance to go ahead, but Lee Micklethwaite then put them in front.

Kris Tate levelled the scores in the 25th minute with a free-kick from 40 yards out which sailed over keeper Daz Palmer, and 10 minutes later Palmer failed to hold onto Danny Glendinning’s shot and veteran Gaz Walters was quickest to react and fire in to put Seamer in front.

Mikey Barker lobbed a shot in before half-time to put Edgehill on level terms.

Ten minutes into the second half Edgehill were reduced to 10 men when a defender committed a foul in the area and Tate slotted in the penalty.

In the 70th minute the visitors also suffered a blow when stalwart Matty Dawson was dismissed for his second caution, and sub Dave Bell then shot home to take the game into extra-time.

In the first minute of extra-time yet another penalty was awarded for a foul on Chris Mattison, and Tate completed his hat-trick to make it 4-3, but Martyn Ferrey’s second attempt at taking a spot-kick was more successful than his first as he netted the fourth for the hosts to force a penalty shoot-out.

Tate put Seamer ahead in the shoot-out, Bell levelled and Glendinning made it 2-1 for the villagers.

Edgehill missed their second through Keith Skelton, Mattison made it 3-1 and a miss from Damian Robinson allowed keeper Chris Ferrey to slot in his side’s winning spot-kick.

Boss Gary Dixon hailed a great all-round team display by the Seamer lads in pulling off this cup shock.

West Pier pulled to within a point of division one leaders Westover with a 7-0 win at struggling Ryedale.

Goals from Martin Cooper, Ali Caw, Tommy Barker and Gaz Thomas put Pier 4-0 up at the break.

Rob Speight added a fifth in the second half, with a Will Jenkinson free-kick and a Luke Delve strike completing the scoring for Pier in a great all-round team effort.

Edgehill also kept on track with a hard-earned 5-2 win at lowly Ayton, Danny Collins netting a treble for the victors.

Collins put the away team ahead in the fifth minute with his first touch and Andy Noon doubled the lead in the 20th minute.

Ayton pulled a goal back after the break and showed signs of recovery, missing a fine one-on-one chance and hitting the post, but a Dean Craig goal restored Edgehill’s two-goal advantage, and another two Collins efforts saw them cruise home.

Young centre-back Daniel Jones was man of the match for Edgehill.

Danny Jenkinson smashed in four goals as Newlands Park surged to a 9-0 home win against Sleights.

Stefan Moon, Chris Mann, Kyle May, Jack Hakings, and Drew McCoubrey completed the scoring for Park

Jenkinson and Moon shared the Park man of the match award.

Seamer Sports coasted to a 7-0 home win against Hunmanby United.

Man of the match Joe Gallagher banged in a hat-trick for Paddy Parke’s team, but also missed a penalty,

Gaz Lawton, Travis Wood, sub Danny Bradbury and a goal scored by Joe Tiffany with his back completed the rout.

The game between USB and Whitby Fisherman’s Society was called off on Saturday morning as the hosts USB could not raise a full team.

Whitby RFC grafted for a 3-1 win at Scalby to stay on top of division two.

The visitors went ahead on five minutes when debutant James Organ-Simpson scored from a fine cross from Mikey Kilpatrick.

Sam Gale in the Whitby goal, and player-boss Dan Gregory, between the sticks for Scalby, both made some cracking saves in a very close first half.

Five minutes into the second half, Paul Jobling’s corner sailed straight in to give Whitby a second and on the hour mark Organ-Simps on slotted in his second to seal the win.

Scalby pulled a goal back on 75 minutes when Carl Marton rounded Gale and finished well, but despite a lot of pressure the hosts could not add to their tally and Whitby earned all three points.

Harry Smith was the Whitby man of the match at right-back, while his counterpart Elliot Spurr, on debut, also earned the star man billing for the hosts, with Marton and Mark Oldroyd also excelling in the centre of midfield.

Gregory said: “We definitely deserved a point from the game. After going behind we rallied and created chances but we were not clinical enough and they were.”

Two second-half headers from Dave Wedge earned Filey Town Reserves a 2-1 home win against a hard-working Duchess.

Ian Laing put Duchess ahead in the first half with a neat finish, but Wedge’s brace of headers, the winner coming 10 minutes from time, earned the title-chasers a crucial win.

The Sands brothers were on top form again for Cayton Corinthians in their 5-1 win at FC Rosette.

Luke Newbould put Cayton ahead in the first minute from the penalty spot, then Josh and Isaac Sands netted a goal apiece to make it 3-0 at the break.

A cracking 12-yard header from Danny Thompson pulled a goal back for the Newby team but their revival was quashed by goals from Josh Sands and sub Jack Pinder, the latter lobbing the home keeper Mikey Harland, who had pulled off some top saves to keep his side in the contest.

Player-boss Shaun Rennison was the Cayton man of the match, while Martin Russell, in midfield, was the home team’s star man.

Ten-man Snainton battled hard for a 1-1 draw at Athletico2B.

Karl Cooper opened the scoring for the villagers with a fine finish and Mikey Webster also hit the post before Shaun Dodson levelled for the home side.

After the break Dodson and Jackson Jowett spurned two great scoring chances apiece, as the away defence, marshalled well by man of the match Cooper, hung on for a point.

This could well have been three points as Cooper fired over with an 85th minute penalty.

Damo Dale was the Cats’ man of the match for another commanding display in central midfield.

Sleights Reserves battled back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 at home to Commercial in division three.

Chris Maiello put the away side in front only for Shane Belchamber to level.

In the second half, goals from Chris Millson, a Tom Sutherland penalty and a Bobby Scarborough effort looked to have sealed the points for Luke Jenkinson’s points.

In the final 10 minutes, a Rob Ingham goal, followed by a penalty by Dan Wilson and a dramatic leveller from Jim Niel earned the hosts a point and only a spectacular save from Ryan Somers denied Sleights a late winner.

Scarborough was man of the match for Commercial.

Michael Szalabski’s double steered Cayton Reserves to a 4-2 home win against Scalby Reserves.

Jon Hodgson opened the scoring for Cayton only for Scalby to level, but Szalabski’s double and a penalty from Ash Durham made it 4-1 at half-time.

Scalby hit a second after the break but Cayton held on for the win, Craig Garton being the man of the match for the hosts, with centre-backs Daz Jones and Adam Robertshaw also shining.

Star man Eric Hall struck a brace to help his Eastway Sports side come back from 2-0 down in 20 minutes to win 3-2 at Sherburn.

Jordan Wharton and man of the match Matty Pickard put Sherburn in charge early on but a cracking free-kick from Hall before the interval gave Sports hope.

Craig Moss levelled for the visitors and Hall’s fierce strike secured all three points for Eastway.

Ayton Reserves called off their game at Tennyson only five minutes before kick-off as they could not raise a full side.
