St Peter’s Primary School will be represented at a regional seven-a-side tournament in the New Year after beating off 15 other schools to win the district silverware.
The St Peter’s side beat their neighbours Northstead in the quarter-finals before edging past Seamer & Irton in the last four of the competition.
That victory set up a clash with St Martin’s in the final and they managed to ease past them to collect the silverware.
Both the finalists will compete in the regional finals in January after their success.
The team’s coach Nick Turley was delighted with his side’s success.
He said: “This is the first time St. Peter’s have won the competition since 1973, which is obviously a great achievement for all the boys in the team.
“Big thanks also has to go to retiring Gladstone Road head teacher Brian Robinson for organising the event.”
