SUNDAY LEAGUE: Newlands Reserves bounce back with win at Fylingdales

Grant and Sunter have taken over after Dave Gaddass stepped down as manager at Newlands’ second string last weekend.

Lewis Peel opened the scoring for the hosts but Ryan Goodworth levelled the scores with a thunderous long-range strike.

Lukasz D’Ros added a second for the away team with a tap-in but Peel struck again to bring it back to 2-2.

Adrian Kwiatkowski scored the third goal for Newlands, after latching onto a long clearance over the top of the home defence from keeper Richard Curtis.

Curtis then repeated this long pass for the fourth Newlands effort, Jakub Flisnik applying the finishing touch on this occasion.

Kwiatkowski made sure of the win after collecting another great pass from Curtis.

Grant said: “Man of the match was shared by D’Ros and Dan Sheader, but the whole team deserve credit for a spectacular battling effort.”

Trafalgar Reserves earned a 4-0 win against a hard-working Alma team on a difficult Eastway playing surface.

Mikey Barker put Traf ahead with his 49th effort for the club and Kyle O’Toole added a second before the break.

Al Wray and Sam Pickard netted for Traf in the second period, with central midfielder Danny Glendinning their man of the match.

Alma player-boss Phil Clothier said: “Credit to all my lads who fought really hard against a very good Traf side. We defended well all game and refused to give in, the man of the match goes to our whole defence as they were very strong.”

Second-placed Scarborough Sports Barrowcliff battled back from 3-0 down at half-time to earn a 3-3 home draw with Heslerton.

The villagers looked to be in complete command at the interval thanks to a brace form their man of the match Tom Peel as well as an own goal for Craig Spooner.

Joint-bosses Tony Walker and Mick Ingle made some changes for Barrowcliff for the second half, Sean Mennall came off, Jack Newlove came on to go in goal allowing Ryan Sanderson to move up front.

Within three minutes of the changes the hosts pulled a goal back, Sam Turner setting up Zac Hansen to tap the ball past the Heslerton keeper from close range.

Fifteen minutes from time the hosts made it 3-2 with a fine 18-yard volley from Dean Johnson, then in the 85th minute they earned a draw thanks to a second from Hansen after fine play from Spooner.

Sanderson had a last-minute effort turned over the bar by the Heslerton keeper.

Spooner and Turner were the joint men of the match for the hosts.

Cayton Corinthians strolled to a 10-1 home win against Hull Uni, star man Harry Holden and Danny Collins both hitting hat-tricks for the villagers.

Teenager Jon Read also continued his fine form with a brace of goals, Jon Hodgson and Alex May also netting for Cayton.

Holden was named as man of the match, starting as centre-back and pushing up front when striker Jake McAleese limped off with a hamstring injury.

Newlands Park maintained their 100 per cent record in division one with a 22-0 hammering of eight-man basement club Itis Itis.

Drew McCoubrey and Stew Bates scored five goals apiece, while joint manager Ryan Cooper scored four and his brother Liam added three, as did Daniel Freer.

Aidan Thomas and Leigh Watson completed the scoring, with McCoubrey and Liam Cooper the star men for the rampant hosts.

Itis Itis player-boss Luke Chambers, who is also the club seceretary, said: “I would like to say well done to the lads who did manage to get out of bed and battled on today.

“We were badly let down by the three players who did not show this morning, but we will probably have 17 there for the semi-final coming up in a few weeks.”
