The title races in both divisions of the Scarborough Sunday League looked to be heading to the wire before the decision to null and void all grassroots football was made by the FA.

Here we will look at how the action panned out over the season before it was halted.

SEPTEMBER

The first weekend of the season saw two games played in Division Two.

Defending champions Angel Athletic Reserves romped to a 12-1 home win against Fylingdales, relegated from Division One in 2018-19, with Harry Holden and sub Tom Sixsmith scoring hat-tricks for the hosts.

Another sub who made a flying start was Liam Johnson, the Eastfield Athletic hot-shot scoring a hat-trick in their 8-0 win at Castle Tavern.

When the top flight clubs kicked off the following weekend there were two shock results.

Angel Athletic, who won the title by a point from Trafalgar in 2018-19, were held to a 1-1 draw at Newlands, while Traf suffered a surprise 3-2 loss at home to Valley thanks to Mike Hernandez’s 90th-minute goal.

Jordan Scott’s double helped West Pier win 4-3 at newly-promoted Cayton Corinthians.

Eastfield Athletic continued their good start to the Division Two season with a 2-0 home win against Saints, while Fylingdales and Castle Tavern played out a 2-2 draw.

A week later, Angel’s stuttering start continued with a thrilling 4-4 draw at an impressive Valley, Harry Ward hitting a treble for the hosts.

Trafalgar bounced back with a 4-0 home win against Cayton, sub Chris Dove scoring a brace of goals, while Newlands and West Pier played out a goalless draw.

Roscoes Bar opened their campaign with a 4-2 win at Castle Tavern, Jack South smashing in a double, while Eastfield Athletic maintained their flawless start with a 2-0 home success against Fylingdales, and Angel Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at Saints.

In the final weekend of September, surprise package Valley FC carried on their top form with a 4-0 victory at Cayton, while Trafalgar suffered a 4-1 loss at improving Newlands thanks to doubles from Dan Freer and Brad Rowley.

Eastfield Athletic’s 100% record was halted by a 2-0 loss at home to Angel Reserves, Harry Holden scoring both goals in a clash between the Division Two big guns.

Gary Hepples and Sam Collin scored two apiece as Roscoes Bar romped to a 9-2 win at Fylingdales, Si Forde scoring both goals for the hosts.

Thameur Dridi’s brace of goals steered Castle Tavern to a 3-1 home win against Saints.

OCTOBER

Angel started October with a bang, racing to a 9-0 win at AFC Acklam in the NRCFA Sunday Challenge Cup, Kurtis Henderson grabbing four goals for the visitors.

Eastfield Athletic also progressed to the next round, thanks to a 2-1 home win against Oddfellows Athletic.

Tom Sixsmith’s hat-trick fired Angel Reserves to a 4-1 win at Castle Tavern in Division Two.

The following weekend Newlands raced to a 7-1 triumph at Yarm Athletic 1sts in the County Cup.

In a crunch clash in Division One, Angel earned a 4-2 home win against Trafalgar to get their title challenge back on track.

Rafal Jackow’s four-goal blast guided Saints to a 10-4 success at Fylingdales, while Roscoes Bar and Angel Reserves both won 4-3, at Eastfield Athletic and Castle Tavern respectively.

Jake Moore and Stephen Whitaker scored two each as Angel Reserves won 5-0 at home to Eastfield Athletic, with Castle Tavern and Saints playing out a 2-2 draw.

In the final round of October matches, Zak Hansen’s four-goal blast steered Newlands to a 6-2 win at Cayton in the Sunday FA Cup.

In Division Two, Roscoes Bar earned a 5-3 home victory against Saints, while Castle Tavern secured a shock 3-1 win at Eastfield Athletic.

NOVEMBER

There was mixed fortunes for local teams in the NRCFA Cup.

Cayton moved on as they won 4-3 at Marton Rovers, but Eastfield Athletic lost out 5-1 at Cleveland United, while Newlands won 4-2 on penalties in a fiery clash against Trafalgar.

Valley conceded their game with Normanby Hall, andholders Angel were awarded their match at Walnut Tree.

Al Wray smashed in four goals as Roscoes Bar strolled to an 18-0 home win against nine-man Fylingdales.

The second round of November fixtures saw Castle Tavern hammered 10-0 at Haxby Town in the NRCFA Sunday Challenge Cup.

Zak Hansen’s hat-trick was the highlight as Newlands earned a 6-1 home win against Valley FC in Division One, Dan Glendinning hitting two goals as Trafalgar defeated West Pier by the same scoreline.

Division Two title rivals Angel Reserves and Roscoes played out a 2-2 draw.

A week later Traf carried on their good form with a 5-1 home victory against Angel, and in the only other game that weekend Eastfield Athletic won a Division Two game at Castle Tavern.

In the final week of November, player-manager Si Forde’s hat-trick helped Fylingdales to a dramatic 5-4 success at Castle Tavern in the only game played that weekend.
