Tennyson look set to join Sunday exodus

This club did attempt to resign a few weeks ago but then changed their minds and vowed to battle on.

The week after their attempt to flee the league, they did not have a game and this weekend they raised only eight players for their home game against Fylingdales and they suffered an 11-0 defeat.

Tennyson managed to win six games in the top flight side last season and a 19-point haul left them well clear of relegation trouble, the team who finished just above them, Filey Flyers, also quit the league during the summer.

A lot of the comments I hear from Sunday League managers include moans and groans about the top two of Trafalgar and Newlands being too strong for the rest of the teams.

The two Trafalgar teams won their leagues last season, and this time around they have 54 players signed on, including seven higher league players, so you would probably fancy their chances again, with Newlands, who also have a similar number signed on between their two sides, their only likely challengers for the league crown.

Tennyson only have 14 players signed on so it is no surprise that they are teetering on the brink.

It is only natural that the better players gravitate towards the better teams, but surely there are a lot of fringe players at both clubs who are not playing much for either the first or seconds.

If Tennyson quit the league then there will be only eight teams left in the top division and 12 in the second division.

From my experience reporting on the games so far this season, there is a trend of the second division games being a lot closer and competitive, while the division one matches are often one-sided affairs.

Last season Roscoes Bar and Cayton Corinthians endured a torrid time in the top flight after promotion from the old division three when the league shifted from a three-division league to two tiers.

Both teams seem more settled in the second division this season, but during the summer the departure of Flyers meant another team, in this case Commercial, was forced up into the first division.

It looks to be a testing season for Commercial, but they are knuckling down and trying their best, unfortunately it seems not many other clubs are able to attract players when faced with the prospect of tackling the likes of Traf and Newlands.
