PICKERING Town boss Jimmy Reid has his eyes firmly set on a top five finish in the NCEL Premier division this season.
The Pikes stepped into sixth position on Saturday afternoon when they earned a comfortable 4-0 success at Hall Road Rangers.
Goals from Chris Gowen, Liam Shepherd, Steve Baxter and Joe Danby were enough to guide Pickering within six points of fifth-placed Tadcaster Albion, who have played two games more.
Reid feels that the next few weeks will set the tone of their final position, as they face up to some interesting clashes.
They kick off with a home game against Thackley on Saturday in the league, which comes before their North Riding FA Senior Cup semi-final encounter at home to Guisborough Town on Tuesday.
Reid said: “We have some big games and they will be a great indication of what we can achieve at Pickering this season.
“We have the big cup semi-final match next week, which is massive for us because we have the chance of playing York City in the final if they can beat Marske.
“We also have some good games coming up in the league. Over the next month we have Thackley, Scarborough Athletic, Barton and Worksop Parramore, who are all sides that are up there in the table.
“I think we are capable of finishing in fifth place and maybe fourth with a good wind behind us. We are scoring goals and playing some good stuff at the moment, so why not?
“We obviously have to concentrate on this season, but things are set up nicely for next. We have a great core of players who could do very well.
“It is just a shame that we got off to a slow start this time around.”
The Pikes will be eager to avenge their 1-0 defeat at Thackley’s Ainsbury Avenue ground last September, and having won their last four league and cup games they will be full of confidence.
