LIAM Salt’s Trafalgar side collected their seventh consecutive Sunday League division one title with a 2-1 win over Star.
Traf extended their extraordinary stretch of unbeaten league games to four seasons in the process as they sealed their title in style, beating one of the pre-season candidates to de-thrown them away from home.
Salt’s men had to work hard for their win against a determined Star outfit, who have dangerous players in Gareth Sygrove, Ryan Jackson and Chris Stubbings.
The sides couldn’t break the deadlock in a tight first period and the scores were level at 0-0 going into the break.
Traf were on the front foot in the second-half and went 1-0 up on the hour mark when Pickering Town’s Wayne Aziz rocketed a header past Star keeper Sam Marson.
Star hit back to make it 1-1 about 10 minutes later when Sygrove found the back of the net with a neat finish.
But Traf weren’t to be denied and they were back in front with 15 minutes left on the clock when Luke Jenkinson ended a sublime team move off with a nice finish.
Traf held out to seal their win and retain their title and boss Salt was delighted with his team’s achievement.
He said: “It’s a great achievemnt for the club.
“To go four years unbeaten in the league and to win it for the seventh year in a row is a massive achievement and all the lads have played their part throughout the season.
“Well done to the players.”
