Scarborough FC’s FA Trophy match-winner Malcolm Thompson has sadly passed away.

The frontman, who hit a 116th minute goal to seal the extra-time win over Wigan in 1973, died on Friday at the age of 68.

Thompson also turned out for Goole and Hartlepool United in his career, after which he was a regular in the press-box at the McCain Stadium.

The thoughts of everyone at the Scarborough News are with his family.
