The Scarborough Valkyries will be playing competitive rugby this season after they were accepted into the National Challenge North 2 East division for the 2015/16 campaign
The town’s only women’s rugby side have played a series of friendlies since forming in 2o14, but they’ll now be playing for points on the board, much to the delight of skipper Cathy-Ann Myers.
Myers said: “I think getting into the league is a huge step forward, and in essence is what this past year was all about.
“It will be a massive challenge for all of the team and coaching staff alike, as this year we’ve had the luxury of long recovery periods between games.
“The league will test our commitment, fitness, and ability to adapt to different positions.
“Regular and competitive rugby is what we need.”
Skipper Myers insists the Valkyries aren’t turning up just to make up the numbers.
She added: “As a team we aspire to finish at the top end of the league.
“There is huge potential within the squad, and if we can get our work ethic and commitment right, this is completely achievable.
“The commitment needed is on a different level to what we have experienced so far, and hopefully everyone will be up ready for the step up required.”
