Govier steps into Scarborough RUFC transition role

Scarborough RUFC have filled a pivotal position ahead of the 2015/16 season after Alan Govier was appointed as their transition officer.

Govier, who has been coaching at the club since his sons Drew and Euan started playing for their youth sides, takes on the role after the tragic and sudden passing of Keith Marshall this year.

Marshall had been the first incumbent of the role, which was introduced at the club by director of rugby Mike Holder to oversee the transition of players from the under-17s side into the senior ranks at Silver Royd.

Holder is delighted with the appointment of Govier.

He said: “Alan is perfectly placed to fill this role and we are delighted he has agreed to take it on.

“He’s been at the club since his oldest son Drew started with us and he is now in the under-17s side, and his youngest Euan is in the under-16s and potentially a very good player too.

“Alan played a good standard in the fire service too.

“Keith was outstanding in the role and it was extremely difficult to try and find someone to fill the role.”
