Halstead shines as Valkyries see off West Park Leeds

The Valkyries took a while to get into the game, with the teams playing 10-a-side due to West Park Leeds not being able to field a full team.

Getting off to a slow start, Scarborough spent the first portion of the game defending in their own half.

However, they fought hard and got their first try after 20 minutes, scored by Aisling Robinson and converted by Mel Halstead.

West Park came back strong with their fly-half scoring an impressive try between the posts.

This was then followed by another Scarborough try from Halstead.

In the second half, Scarborough were the more organised side and their superior fitness showed with them keeping the majority of possession and turning over West Park’s ball on many occasions.

The game was rounded off with further tries from Sam Knight and Halstead to complete a comfortable 26-7 win for the Scarborough girls.

Player of the match went to Leah Gillon for her impressive tackling and excellent work in rucks, winning the Valkyries many of the turnovers during the game.
