Friday night’s fans’ forum in Scarborough is something I’m really looking forward to.
As long as things are done properly on the night and it isn’t turned into a slanging match, then this kind of thing can be a useful tool.
It will give the supporters the chance to get to know me a bit better.
Just because I have a quiet demeanour doesn’t mean that I don’t care. We can’t all be jumping about can we?
This is a two-way thing because we’re here to listen to what they say as well.
We have to listen to their expectations of the club, take it on board and manage them.
Every fan wants to see their club doing well, but that is something that takes time.
It is why we are here though.
As Scarborough have found this season, you can’t just go out there and win games.
This club is seen as a big club and one that is well supported, so we have to try that little bit harder.
It has been hard, but we have turned that corner now.
Throughout the bad patches this club has been through, there hasn’t been one player who didn’t want to go out and win the football match they were playing in.
Now we have to start looking at next season, to what we and the fans want to achieve.
We have brought in some young, hungry players, who in my opinion have made a big difference to us.
It is up to everyone now to show me and Chris [Bolder] that they want to be here and be involved next season.
Even if they are not in our plans, they have to go and show other managers and clubs what they are capable of.
We also have to look at the integration of the under-21s and a number of different matters.
I’m hoping to discuss that and a lot of other things at the fans forum, so we can take the pressure off our chairman Dave Holland and his board.
They all want the best for this club and if we work together then we can achieve things.
On a sadder note, I learned this week that we lost a long-serving supporter in Alan Moffatt.
I didn’t manage to meet Alan, but I understand he has been an avid follower of the club for a number of years.
The players, Chris Bolder and myself all send Alan’s family our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences.
If there is anything we can do to soften the blow then we are at the end of a phone.
