New names will go on the North Cliff BC Doubles Merit trophy following Sunday’s competition which was blessed with good weather and a green in excellent condition.
There was a good entry for the event which was sponsored by Stuart and Karen Neilson of the nearby North Riding Hotel and run by club members Richard and Dot Thompson.
In the quarter-finals North Cliff’s Bob Davies and Wayne Adams beat Colin Burns (North Cliff) and Andy Adamson (Borough) 21-6, Tom Chalmers (North Cliff) and Geoff Watson (Whitby) beat Alan Bambrook and Andy Deighton (both Dukes Park) 21-17, Ian Moss and Jackie Stapleton (both Dukes Park) beat Mike Tyson (North Cliff) and Steve Bell (Borough) 21-13 and Robert Child and Sonnie Howard (both North Cliff) beat clubmates John and Danny Cooper 21-16.
In the semi-finals Davies and Adams beat Chalmers and Watson 21-7 while Child and Howard beat Stapleton and Moss 21-17.
With loads of successes on the North Cliff green under their belts over the years Child and Howard went into the final as favourites, but Davies, in his first season at the club, and Adams continued their excellent play of the previous rounds to win 21-17.
On Sunday there will be an Under-16s Boys and Girls Merit competition at Bridlington Bay BC’s Sewerby Park green, 11am start.
