BURNISTON Methodist Church held a ‘Karting 4 Mexico’ charity event at Scarborough Indoor Karting on Dunslow Road.

The event, which was held to raise funds for the church’s ‘Urban Saints’ trip to Mexcio, has so far raised over £1200.

There were 33 competitors in the competition that was contested by six different teams.

The participating teams included North Yorkshire Police, students from Scarborough Sixth Form College, St Augustine’s and Scalby, lecturers from Hull University, SSFC, and Yorkshire Coast College, teachers from St Augustine’s and two teams made up of friends of Burniston Methodist Church.

Event co-ordinator Adrian Sartain said: “The karting went really well, it was a fantastic night.

“We were racing for three hours and there was a great turnout, a lot of spectators came to support the 33 who were racing.

“We have currently raised £1200, but we are hoping that figure will rise to around £1500.

“The amount we have raised so far is enough to fund one of the 17 people we are hoping to send to Mexico as part of the Urban Saints project.

“I cannot thank the people at Scarborough Indoor Karting enough. Without their support this event would not have been possible.

“They have been really generous and as well as staging the event they organised a raffle to raise more funds.”
