City of York friendly follows action-packed hockey day of fun

In celebration of the new season, Scarborough Hockey Club are hosting an open day for anyone and everyone from the town on Saturday.

Scarborough residents are invited to come along to Scarborough College from 9.30 onwards for a fun packed day.

Club chairman Chris Tait said: “Continuing the success that Rush Hockey had over the summer we are arranging some turn up and play games on the Astroturf.

“It doesn’t matter what experience you have these are games that suit everyone. All equipment provided. There will also be a Hockey dribble course available for all ages.”

The club day will finish with a pre-season local derby game against rivals City of York Hockey Club.

Team GB Hockey goody bags and prizes along with refreshments are on offer at this free event.

After two successive promotions as League Champions Scarborough Hockey Club are looking to continue this trend and make it a hat-trick of league titles as they prepare for life in the Yorkshire Hockey League division two.

Scarborough’s new captain for the campaign James Bryant said: “This Saturday will be the first time that we can get the entire squad together for a friendly this season, as work and other commitments have so far been a minor impairment on our preparations.

“We have had to play a number of players out of their preferred positions as well as experiment with a few minor formational changes, however this coming Saturday we intend to show our full hand and demonstrate our intentions for the season ahead.”

The season begins on September 22 against Chapeltown, with the final warm-up fixture being played against Yorkshire Premier side University of Hull 1sts.
