FRANK Maloney is expecting big things from Danny Price ahead of the Scarborough fighter’s third step into the professional game.
Price, 26, will do battle with Tayar Mehmed tomorrow night in Liverpool’s Olympia as he bids to continue a solid start to his professional cruiserweight career.
And despite only being two fights into a fledgling spell in boxing, top promoter Maloney, who managed Lennox Lewis to world domination, is already giving Price a firm backing.
He said: “Danny is somebody who can really catch the public’s imagination.
“He is a weight below the heavyweights at cruiserweight, but he has started well with two wins out of two.
“Danny definitely has the potential to be the most exciting cruiserweight that Britain has ever produced.”
Price is also in confident mood going into the bout against a journeyman Bulgarian opponent.
He added: “I expect to go out there and win.
“If the knockout comes then it comes, it is all about the performance for me. I won’t be too disheartened if I don’t manage to put him on the canvas.
“It will be tight because he does have a lot of experience. I’ll be taking a look in the first round and then we’ll see what happens.”
Danny has been shaping up well for the fight with some top sparring against heavyweight David Price, who tops the bill with his British title eliminator against John McDermott.
He added: “The preparation has been perfect for me. I’ve had some great sparring and I’m feeling good.
“I’ve been sparring with David Price and the highly-ranked David Dolan, so there has been a good deal of variation there.”
