Frazer Clacherty, of Richardsons Cycling Club, continued his flying start to the season with an impressive first place in the Youth Category of the National MTB cross-country series.
Fifteen-year-old Clacherty travelled to Redruth in Cornwall for this second round, he described the course as “brilliant, there were some very technical steep descents along with some hard hills”.
The weather was perfect and this obviously suited the teenager better than the first round held in near freezing temperatures and snow on the trails. Victory was earned after a tussle over three laps decided by a sprint finish, Clacherty winning by eight seconds. The next round will be in Shropshire in June. Another local rider, Mike Thompson, was first in the Junior Category, Mike is now a member of the Olympic Development squad.
