Four of Scarborough Athletic Club’s young athletes represented North Yorkshire Schools at the annual Inter- County Schools match which was held at the Meadowfield Leisure Centre, Durham.

The North Yorkshire team members were competing against athletes selected to represent Northumbria, Cleveland, Cumbria and Durham after their respective county championships.

In addition to the honour of representing their county, it is also an opportunity for the junior, intermediate and senior age groups who have not already been automatically selected to represent their county at the prestigious English Schools Championship, to impress the selectors and gain a late call up.

In the Inter Girls race, Hannah Mainprize (right) of Graham School, who was competing for North Yorkshire Schools for the second time, finished up in 22nd place of 62.

The team finished as the runner-up and Hannah was the seventh scorer.

The three other Scarborough Schools athletes were all making their county debut in the Year Seven races, in the boys race, Harry Coldbeck of Ryedale School was the most successful when finishing fourth and was the second scorer of the winning team Christian Mummert of Scalby School ran well to finish 49th and was the 11th scorer.

In the corresponding Girls race, Amy Corcoran also of Scalby School helped her team achieve first place when finishing up in 16th of 55 and was seventh scorer.
