Paul Marr of Richardsons Cycle Club said: “For Scarborough to be part of this international sporting event is fantastic, local people will have the opportunity to watch professional sport for free.
“Locals will also have the added bonus of being able to witness the thrill of the sprint for victory at the end.”
Scarborough Paragon Cycling Club press officer Graham Varley, said: “It’s great news for cycling in Scarborough to get the finish.
“The route will provide opportunities to see the riders as it passes through the villages.
“This is going to be a high profile event that should provide a great spectacle for both residents and visitors alike.”
Simon Walker, of the new YH Training Scarborough Road Club, added: “The bank holiday will allow local children and holidaymakers to be inspired by their heroes such as Team Sky’s Ben Swift, who will be a hot favourite for the lightning finish to stage one.”
