We are now approaching the time of year when the club championships are being played and other events that require you to play 36 holes in a day.
What I generally see at 36-hole events is that there’s not enough time to eat and prepare ready for the second 18 holes.
To help you perform well all day you can start and prepare for the competition the night before.
Using an electric trolley with a 36-hole battery will help for the day.
Drinking at least one litre of water per round and snacking on pieces of banana every couple of holes will help with your first round.
To help with a quick change around between the first round and second round - freeze a wet towel the night before and a bottle of water.
The water will be cool for when you start your second round and using the towel will help you freshen up in hot conditions.
Using the obvious sun cream, hats and sun glasses will help to protect you for eight hours on the course.
In extreme heat I have also known players use umbrellas to help protect them from the sun.
Generally with quick change over times between the first and second round, it is worth snacking on sandwiches, fruit and energy bars when you start the back nine of the first round only eating bits at a time so you don’t start to feel lethargic.
Eating as you play will give you time to change clothing between rounds so you feel comfortable before you start your second round.
