The future is looking bright for Scarborough Swimming Club thanks to the next generation of coaches who are being brought through the ranks.
The club’s aquatics co-ordinator and coach Sam Greetham said: “The club has gone through a restructure as we look to make sure the swimmers are being covered during their training sessions.
“We needed more cover as we compete on Saturday and train the other six days, mostly in the early hours from 5am to 7.30am. With 24 swimmers often in action, we need three coaches.”
Greetham added: “As the premier competitive club in the town we have a lot of young swimmers coming along to the indoor pool in the early hours to train.
“The new coaches who are being brought through are Tom Heaton, Luke Kelly, Nathan Renshaw and Hywel Evans.
“The team who are training these coaches are coach mentor David Renshaw, coach tutor Mike Squires and myself as aquatics co-ordinator and coach.”
Greetham said that Scarborough SC is trying to be pro-active by planning for the future, as the 123-year-old club will be moving to new premises at the Weaponness Leisure Village. in the next year or so.
