North Cliff boost Over-60s title bid

Dropping just one game to Terry Summersgill and Jack Binns 21-12, North Cliff 1 continued their bid to take the Over-60s League division one champions’ title with a 13-2 victory away to Borough 1.

Richard Thompson and Mick Carter 23-8 were Cliff’s big winners in the 120-83 aggregate advantage.

In division two, Brid Bay 3 won 12-2 at home to Borough 3 when Chris Kelly and Shirley Dixon won 24-10. Borough’s best were C Roberts and D Bridge 23-11.

Hunmanby 2 met Hunmanby 3 and recorded a 10-4 victory. E and J Benton 25-10 for the No 2s and A Wilkinson and A Redfern 17-11 for the No 3s had the big wins.

Dukes Park 1 beat Borough 2 150-101 in the Evening Singles League division 1.

Best returns: Trevor Hanlon 21-7 for Borough and Dennis O’Neill 21-6, Stackie Stapleton 21-7 and Andy Deighton 21-8 for Park.

North Cliff 1 beat Hunmanby 2 168-91 when Danny Cooper 21-3 and Ed McCormack 21-4 were the best of their eight winners.

Borough B beat Eastfield 8-7 at Manor Road when the teams achieved equal aggregate scores 204-204.

Best of Borough’s winners were Jean Purdy 21-9 and Trevor Hanlon 21-10, while Jim Brownridge 21-3 and Les Craggs 21-5 were best for Eastfield.

Hunmanby 1 beat Hunmanby 2 149-106 when Jean Povey 21-6 and Steve Freer 21-8 were their big winners.

Neil Ledingham responded with a 21-8 for the No 2 team.

In division two, Hunmanby 3 beat Brid Bay 3 144-135. Best returns were by A Firth, for Hunmanby, and J Hatton, for Bay, both 21-7.

North Cliff 2’s Wayne Adams 21-1, Neville Dawson 21-4 and Eileen Dawson 21-7 were their big winners when they beat Eastfield 2 149-105.

Jim Brownridge 21-9 was best for the visitors.

Borough 1 beat Borough 3 84-47 in the Evening Doubles League, when Mick Gates and Dave Pryce 21-5 and Tony Bland and Steve Taylor 21-9 had their best returns.

Lisa Watson and Jenny Richards won 21-2 when Hunmanby beat Westgate 2 84-41.
