The inaugural First Light Charity run was held over a five mile multi terrain course, starting and finishing at Scarborough Rugby Club’s Silver Royd ground.
The event was very well supported by members of Scarborough Athletic Club, who battled with some very strong windy but otherwise fine weather.
Scarborough club members, who use the area for their regular training runs, occupied eight of the first nine places.
The first to cross the line and set the course record of 34 minutes 45 seconds was Phillip Markham.
The runner-up and first woman was a former Scarborough Athletic Club member and Great Britain junior athlete Alex Wheatman, who similarly set the women’s course record of 35 minutes 45 seconds. Mally Sweetlove was third overall and the first veteran in 38.10. Lindsay McDonald was the second woman finisher in 39.48.
In the accompanying one mile fancy dress race, Scarborough Athletic Club’s juniors occupied the first and second places. Kyle Richardson headed clubmate Tom Louth, when finishing in 5 minutes and 5 seconds, while Tom followed closely in 5 minutes 22 seconds.
