Former Scarborough boxer Matthew Tinker will aim to make it third time lucky when he fights in the Irish Senior ABA final tomorrow night.

In his third appearance in an ABA final, Tinker will bid to become Irish ABA champion as he takes on Roy Sheahan, the 2006, 2007 and 2008 winner and former European Elite Champion in the 81kg final.

The former Scarborough and Westway man beat Padraig McCrory in the semi-final this week to make the final.

Tinker has also competed in the final of the London ABAs, losing to eventual overall winner Joshua Buatsai.

He said: “The semi-final against McCrory was a tough, close fight.

“I’m looking forward to the final now. I’ve been training hard and hopefully I can put on a good performance and get the win.”
