Scarborough-born boxer Matthew Tinker added to his already impressive amateur CV with victory in the Celtic Cup in Ireland over the weekend.
Tinker was competing in the Men’s 81kg category and had to overcome Polish contender Arkadiusz Szwedowicz in the semi-final on Saturday, winning all three rounds to book a place in the final against Tony Browne of St Michael’s in Dublin.
The former Scarborough ABC man won two of the three rounds against the younger Browne to take home the belt.
Tinker said: “I enjoyed the tournament and hopefully will have a good season off the back of it now.
“I’m just happy to get the season off to a good start and beat two international opponents.
“A massive thanks to Ray Simpson and Neil Brockelhurst, who have really helped me out.”
