Nominate your sport achievers at awards

NOMINATIONS are being invited for the Scarborough area’s sporting equivalent of The Oscars.

There are 18 categories in The Scarborough and District Sports Council Annual Sports Awards which recognise achievement at a junior and senior level, volunteering, inclusive sport, coaching, club stalwarts and playing teams in the borough of Scarborough.

Local sports clubs, schools, community organisations and individuals are now being encouraged to recognise talented sports persons and teams by making a nomination.

Chris Rhodes, chairman of the District Sports Council, said: “The awards are a fantastic opportunity for the borough to recognise its sporting talent and achievers. We have such a diverse range of sporting activity with so many achievers. The awards provide a real stage to showcase this talent and give them the recognition they deserve.”

The winners will be announced during a presentation ceremony from 7.30pm on Thursday November 24 at The Spa.

Mr Rhodes added: “Anybody can attend and we invite all the nominees and their families together with the nominators to the presentation to make it a real celebration of local sport.”

Nomination forms are available by emailing or by contacting Matt Hewison on (01723) 501984.

The deadline for nominations is Friday September 23.
