Scarborough Athletic Club’s Neil Scruton shines on competitive comeback at Benidorm 10K road race

​Two Scarborough Athletic Club members joined thousands of runners at the annual Benidorm Road races, that attracts runners from all over Europe.

Club stalwart Neil Scruton competed in the 10-Kilometre race, which was his first competitive outing for nine months after setbacks due to injury, writes Mick Thompson.

He finished as the second-placed Over-75 and in the top third overall of 3,356 in 56.34.

Mark Bowes competed in the Half-Marathon race, which was a distance debut race, and finished in 1.57.41 and well inside the top half overall total of 3174 finishers.

Lynn Watson competed in the Wilmslow Festive 10K Road Race.

She finished inside the top half of 2,349 female finishers in 65.14.

The Dalby Forest parkrun was cancelled due to a snowfall on the adjacent roads close to the event start time.

However it was subsequently decided that those who had already arrived at the start, and could then exit the area safely were allowed to still take part.

Robert Preston joined 18 of the ‘early birds’ at the venue and added 12th place overall to his parkrun history.

The Parkrun at York went ahead as usual with a reduced total of 393 from the usual over 700.

Matthew Rutt finished 58th overall.

The Parkrun at East Hull also went ahead with 281 and far less than a typical 500 plus starters.

Lee Wiles finished up in 15th overall.
