Scarborough Gymnastics Academy move online to continue training sessions

Scarborough Gymnastics Club are managing to maintain sessions for hundreds of members during the pandemic by taking things online.

The third national lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic has brough all grassroots sport to a halt and has already wreaked havoc with the majority of indoor-based sports throughout a testing 12 months.

However, Scarborough Gymnastics Academy (SGA) are determined to push on in spite of the restrictions and have set up virtual sessions for their huge membership to enjoy while staying active during the lockdown.

SGA head coach Nicola Walker said: “SGA currently has over 300 gymnasts from age one upwards taking part in weekly online sessions delivered by our team of amazing coaches.

“The competitive groups train three or four times a week and showing great commitment and making amazing progress at the skills permitted to perform at home.

“The recreational gymnasts have the opportunity to take part in two sessions per week and access the British gymnastics proficiency award scheme classes we are running.

“All the coaches are so proud of what the gymnasts are achieving throughout lockdown.

“Their ongoing dedication and motivation is amazing at this very difficult time for sports clubs.”

Walker also confirmed several Scarborough Gymnastics Academy athletes are able to continue training during lockdown restrictions, due to their qualification for elite athlete status after making the Great Britain squads.

The SGA coach added: “We also had the fantastic news the SGA gymnasts who are currently in the GB squad are permitted to continue training at the gym under the elite athlete status.”
