GLADSTONE Road claimed victory in the Scarborough & District Primary Schools rugby league Winter Cup at Scarborough College.

The winners saw off Seamer & Irton and Newby & Scalby by 12-4 margins, defeated Barrowcliff 4-0 and then edged out the hosts 16-12 on their way to winning the round-robin tournament.

Organiser Jon Wanless said: “All the players impressed with very high levels of skill in all areas of the game and the matches were played in an excellent spirit.Well done to all the players.

“Yorkshire Coast Titans scouts were present at the event, looking to spot new players for an under-12s representative side to play in the festival at Hunmanby later this year”

He added: “The runners-up Barrowcliff had the meanest defence of the day, conceding just two tries, but Gladstone Road were the deserved winners, having won all four games and running in an impressive 11 tries.

“I would like to thank Scarborough College for their excellent hospitality and to the referees, Nigel Mainprize and Andy Lawley for their efforts throughout the tournament.”
