A DEPLETED Yorkshire Coast Titans Under-13s side suffered a 42-10 home defeat against York Acorn in the Yorkshire Junior League division four game at Filey Community Sports Club.
The Titans showed great promise considering that they r three players down for the whole match.
Acorn opened up the scoring with a try and conversion from right under the posts. Titans were unable to respond leading to York getting through with another try but unsuccessful conversion.
Titans then put up a strong defence with some outstanding tackles from Tom Burton on their try line which kept York from scoring another try.
The visitors then responded by breaking with a 60-metre run leading to another converted try.
A few errors from Titans saw York come through with their fourth unconverted try leaving the score at half time 22-0.
The second half opened with York finding the try-line once more with an excellent try and conversion.
Titans started the fightback with an excellent kick from Nic Lovering on the fifth tackle which bounced off a York player giving Titans another set of six on York’s try-line. An excellent run from Lovering saw him finding the try-line with a great unconverted try.
York then fought back with another converted try making it 28-4 10 minutes into the second half.
Titans then saw Josh Pickering powering through York’s defence and running 50 metres before scoring directly under the post with Mally Jackson converting making it 28-10.
Last 15 minutes of the second half saw a few errors on both teams but York managing to gain from them with three more tries, two of which were converted, making the final score 42-10 to Acorn.
Man of the match for the Titans was Jo Holliday for some excellent tackles.
Acorn’s coach also awarded a man of the match to the Titans’ Nic Lovering, saying that ‘he had and outstanding game, pulled our team apart in the centre and broke down our plays’.
The Titans’ next fixture is tomorrow at home to Whinmoor, 11.30am ko.
Training is on Thursdays 6pm-7pm at Hunmanby Sports Club on the floodlit all weather pitch, all ages are welcome.
