The match was the first of a double bill of games as part of the club’s day paying tribute to Pirates fan Andrew McGeown, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Player-coach Keith Paddock said: “It was a tough game, as expected, as they were a big, physical side, but we were quite evenly matched.

”Our forwards were outstanding, with Zac Metcalfe and Joe Messruther putting in a good shift. Tom Read was by far the best forward on the field.”

Paddock added: “The backs didn’t see a lot of ball as the game was played mostly in forwards. Defence was pretty good it was hard work dealing with their big lads.

“Alex Paddock had probably his best game of the season scoring two tries and two conversions, he then doubled up and played for the first team in the game afterwards.”

The other try-scorers were Jamie Cornish, Corey Goodlad, Carl Stephenson, and a Marcus Paddock conversion completed the scoring.
