SCARBOROUGH Vikings skipper Craig Fairbairn is looking for his charges to sink derby rivals Malton on Saturday in their Yorkshire Merit League clash at Silver Royd (3pm)

Fairbairn, 23, recently took over the captain’s armband from Rob Hazeldine and is relishing the challenge.

He said: “I am honoured to be the captain of the Vikings and it is a massive privilege.

“Rob stepped down but he is still playing and I am looking forward to leading the lads out against Malton.

“We have lost twice to them this season away from home and beat them at Silver Royd so I think it will be a good game.”

The Vikings are a young squad but they also have some first team experience with the likes of Fairbairn and Christopher Mabbott having featured for Nick Ingham’s first XV.

Faibairn added: “We are a young squad but we have been doing quite well and can still get into the play-offs.

“We welcome back utility back Simon Dixon for the Malton match which is a big boost.

“The likes of prop Ryan Pickering, Anthony Robertson and Clayton Hill are all young players who can have a bright future with the club.”
