We managed to come back from the lengthy trip to Keighley with a win on Saturday, and although I wasn’t entirely pleased with the performance, the attitude shown by the lads was first class.

We said it all at the end of the game. The lads weren’t overly chuffed after the final whistle and that says it all.

Keighley only scored as a result of our mistakes which is clearly a positive and we looked dangerous going forward at times.

But I am not easily impressed and we will come up against better sides than Keighley and will need to improve if we’re going to challenge.

One thing that was obvious was the fitness and conditioning of the guys.

They’ve put a lot in fitness wise in pre-season and that showed on Saturday.

We came up against a big, powerful Keighley pack and managed to dominate it, which was extremely pleasing.

Credit where it is due to the players. They were stuck on a coach for three hours, and that is going to take its toll on any team.

But we went out and did a job.

Like I said, I’m not easily impressed and I was not impressed with the performance, but the attitude was exactly as it should be.

We now go into the first home game of the season against Acklam, who shipped 88 points against York on Saturday.

I can’t wait for it now. Silver Royd is a lovely place, it’s a lovely ground and our players and fans should relish being there and opposition fans should fear coming here.

The way we show our respect to our opponents is by bringing our A game. If we do that we should get the win.
