SCARBOROUGH player-coach Craig Farrell insists his side must find a ruthless streak if they are to put an end to their poor run of form at Castleford on Saturday.

The Silver Royd side have slipped down the Yorkshire One table recently after suffering a streak of close defeats, and Farrell is hoping his teammates can get over the edge and put and end to their luckless run.

Farrell said: “There have been positives to take out of our performances recently, but we haven’t been getting the results.

“We’ve been playing well for periods of games, but playing well in patches doesn’t win you matches.

“Perhaps we’re lacking that killer instinct at the moment.

“Ruthless is a word we’ve been using recently and maybe we need to try and kill teams off.”

Scarborough fell to a 14-10 defeat at Heath last weekend despite charging in to a 10-0 lead.

And Farrell insists Scarborough need to have the mental strength to keep hold of a lead, while converting their pressure and dominance during matches into points on the board.

Farrell added: “We started really well last week and were 10-0 up, so to lose that game was disappointing to say the least.

“We had a good period of 20 minutes in the second half and just couldn’t get over the line.”

Farrell insists Scarborough will get no favours from a strong Castleford side, and they will need to be at their best to pick up a win.

He added: “It’s always tough going to Castleford.

“From reading their reports, they haven’t been getting the results their performances have warranted of late.

“So we’re expecting a tough match and we’ll need to be at our best to come back with the win come Saturday.”
