Jason Lowde: Disappointment rife at Silver Royd on Saturday

Saturday most certainly wasn’t a the best of days to be a fan of Scarborough and England, was it?

We were beaten by the better side in Huddersfield YMCA at Silver Royd, and then England were obviously second-best in their RBS 6 Nations decider against Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

Looking at our game first, I thought we were very disappointing.

The dressing room was very quiet afterwards and understandably so.

We gifted them three tries, and while we were definitely second-best, we didn’t come off the pitch saying X, Y or Z player was outstanding for them.

They just performed better as a side than us. They had no superstars in their side.

To say we made two tackles in the first 20 minutes tells you how much we dominated the opening salvo.

They defended really well as a unit and were well structured too.

They stood off at the rucks and mauls and made it tough for us to break them down, and they were patient and waited for the right time to strike.

There were moments when we were unlucky, but on the whole there are things we need to look at and try and improve on going forward.

Switching focus to the Millennium Stadium, England were also well beaten, but they weren’t helped by the referee at all.

There is a reason why he was banned from officiating England games in the past, and he was poor again on Saturday.

That is taking nothing away from Wales, they were superb.
