The great thing about my job is that the environment is ever changing.
There is always something to do, and although it can be a lot of work, it means no day is ever the same.
A busy week has just passed and yet another one is unfolding.
My article this week will be more of an update as to the current ongoing events happening at the club and ones to look out for in the future.
Last Friday saw Yorkshire Carnegie take on fierce Rivals Rotherham Titans in a physical encounter.
Over a thousand spectators were present and it was great to see all of our junior teams there as well as some of the youth from the town.
It’s big events like these that inspire our younger generations to take up the sport, and encourage them to continue working hard.
Our mascot for the day was Max Jenkinson, a minis superstar.
He did a fantastic job on the night and I hope we can reward more of our youngsters in a similar manner throughout the season.
Having weekly mascots is something I have spoken at length about with Jennifer Jaconelli, who is the press and communications officer at McCain.
She works tirelessly to help the youth and continuously offers new ideas and concepts to expand our Active Youth Scheme.
The club is continuously thankful for her hard work and it’s great to see others coming together to make a difference in this town.
On Monday the club played host to its first Scarborough/Ryedale 10s festival. Schools such as Graham, Lady Lumley’s, St Augustine’s and Filey took on other secondary schools from around the region, including Malton and Rydale.
The day itself was a huge success, and showcased the fine facilities we have at this club.
Following the event we had a number of players express interest in joining the club which was also a brilliant bonus.
Tuesday saw our first primary school tag rugby festival.
The night was a great way to see the children’s progression in the sport, and a good indicator as to their development for the future.
We will be hosting another primary school tag rugby festival before Christmas so any schools that want to enter please get in touch, we’d love to have you.
October half-term will see Scarborough RUFC host another Jacaranda’s multi skills camp, where all children attending are offering the chance to enjoy a range of different activities such as dodgeball, football, tennis rounders as well as arts and crafts.
We will also be including a Halloween special day on Friday October 31.
So this will certainly not be one to miss. Please contact the club if you’d like to book your children on the camp at only £10 a day - 9am-3:30pm.
On Saturday October 25, Scarborough RUFC will be hosting a “Come and try Rugby Saturday” for ages 11-14.
Here we’ll invite all those that have never played before, including those that may have played but have lost interest in the game.
We’ll be offering you a fun training session in the morning, followed by some free food and drink, before the first team take on Malton & Norton in front of a large crowd, which we’d encourage all juniors to stay and watch.
This entire event is completely free for those involved and we’d love to have as many down as possible.
If you’re interested please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Both our under-15s and under-17s will be at home this week in games against Beverley and Mosborough respectively.
All of our minis (under-sixes to under-12s) will also be training at Silver Royd as we get prepared for another successful Sunday at the club.
I’d encourage all parents with children to come and have a look at a typical Sunday at the club, witness what activities go on, and see if children of your own would enjoy the set up we have here.
I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Finally, I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has offered me their support so far since I have moved here.
Last week marked the third month I have been in the post.
There has been lots done, but I’m hungry to keep pushing and achieving many more things during my time here at Scarborough RUFC.
Your kind words and backing is always something that helps me throughout the week.
