Junior report: Under-16s battled in West Park Leeds loss

Sunday brought another full day of rugby up at Silver Royd and it was action-packed to say the least.

With all age groups up to Under-13s away playing in Whitby, it was left to the Under-16s and the Colts to showcase their skills in front of good crowds on the lower pitches.

The Under-16s had a very tough game in the Yorkshire Cup plate tournament against a very well-drilled West Park Leeds side.

Although the boys started very well and looked more than up for the game in both attack and defence they were out done in the end by a team who were very well-drilled and had very good attacking skills throughout the team.

The final score ended up at 49-0 to the away side although this was not a full reflection on the game and the boys deserve a lot of credit for how they stuck in.

Going on at the same time was the Colts game against Hullensians in the Under-17/18s Colts League.

This is the second time the two teams have met this season with Hullensians coming out on top first time round.

This time though it was our boys who came out the victors with a 23-21 win, recording their first win this season.

Troubled again by a slow start, we let Hullensians control the game for the first 35 minutes before the boys woke up and started playing some of their best rugby this season.

With some excellent skills and some well worked tries on show it was definitely an outstanding effort from all involved.

Man of the match was a difficult one for the coach to pick but they went for Owen Price for his industrious work at the breakdown and to Thomas Anderson for his attacking prowess.

Hopefully this is a turning point for all involved and we can see more and more of these performances and victories.

Looking forward to this weekend we have a full card of fixtures for all junior teams on Sunday for both the boys and girls.

The boys will be playing Selby with the Under-13s away at their place and the Under-14s and Under-16s at home.

The Colts will be looking to build on their last performance with a trip to Pocklington on the cards.

The girls have a massive weekend with both teams being involved in National Cup games.

The unbeaten Under-15s side are travelling to Horden to play, while the Under-18s who are joint with Malton will be playing Ripon up at Silver Royd with a 2pm kick-off.

Good luck to all teams involved and also a mention to the minis who will be having their Christmas party day, hopefully it’s a successful day all round.

In finishing I’d also like to remind everyone of our first team’s home game against local rivals Bridlington this coming Saturday.

This is a massive game and one I know everyone is looking forward to.

There is plenty going on up at the club and it’s sure to be a good day so get yourself up here and support the boys.

Also, remember its free entry for Under-18s, who also get a free hot dog and drink along with the younger kids getting to meet Santa in his grotto and will receive a present if they are on the good list.

Thanks for reading

Graham
