Saturday’s win at Acklam may have been expected, but in recent weeks teams have gone up there and struggled to pick up the points.
They guys went up there and played well on their way to a win by 30-odd points.
For me Tom Ratcliffe was superb on the day.
He was supposed to be on the bench for the game, but Matty Young hadn’t been at training on Thursday night, so Tom was drafted in.
He responded superbly to the threat of the bench, scoring three tries and putting in a man-of-the-match display.
Tom hasn’t been performing in recent weeks, his fitness is an issue and he has been flitting in and out of games.
Maybe the fact that he would have been on the bench was a wake-up call because he put in a very positive performance.
We do have some replacements across the team, with the likes of Graeme Jeffrey and Matty Young able to slot into Tom’s position on the wing if needed.
I just wish I had the amount of players to be able to threaten everyone with a place on the bench if I needed to.
We now go into a bit of a festive break before a friendly at Driffield on December 28.
That is followed on January 4 by our next Yorkshire One match at home to Heath.
The break will give us a chance to have a bit of a rest and a number of the lads will be given the chance to recover from injuries.
Who knows what the lads will get up to over the Christmas period, hopefully they will have a relaxed and chilled out one, but they tend to keep themselves fit.
I hope they do for when we go again in the New Year.
